Floppy Dragon

Pregor deLorentis the dragon displaying his mighty form

I was ready to try some new designs made by other people and I saw this free dragon pattern which reminded me of the JellyCat bashful dragons which I love.

The biggest obstacle I have when making the dragon is that the increases and decreases in stitches are tilted to one side, so instead of a symmetrical chubby dragon, I made one that looks like it’s full, or “preggo”, on one side of its belly. In theory the pattern would make sense, but my guess is that the beginning stitch of every row is just a little bit to the right from the beginning stitch of the previous row, so if the pattern does not put that into consideration, the increases will end up edging further and further away from the centre. That being said, I’ve been using a different yarn from what was suggested in the pattern, so maybe the slightly curved effect is intentional and just looks a bit weird if I use a different yarn. Also, even a preggo dragon is charming in its own way. I had a lot of fun making it, and it gave me something to keep in mind if I ever wanted make my own patterns in the future.

Attaching the limbs was another issue I encountered, I wanted all four limbs to be facing a bit forward, and I’m not sure if there's a better way to sew them to the body but mine turned out to be sticking straight out of the body so the limbs are all sprawled out, making the dragon a bit goofy, like i caught it when it was jumping in surprise (imagine a spooked cat jumping with its legs all spread out in mid-air).

Overall, despite not turning out the way I wanted it to, it's still a very enjoyable project to make.
